Andrea Barrett is a celebrated American writer known for her historical fiction and its realistic portrayal of the natural sciences. She studied biology and zoology before turning to writing full-time, achieving prominence when her book of short stories, Ship Fever, won the National Book Award in 1996. Since then, Barrett has received a MacArthur Fellowship and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her collection Servants of the Map. She is currently teaching English at Williams College and working on a novel.
