David Byrne and Daniel Levitin first met last October in Montreal at the Future of Music Policy Summit. While in town, Byrne paid a visit to Levitin's Laboratory for Music Perception, Cognition, and Expertise. The two decided to meet again at Byrne's studio in New York a few weeks later, and continued their discussion of composition in art and music, trance states, and live versus “dead” performances. Recently at STK, in New York's Meatpacking District, they traded ideas about music, language, and memory.
